Card payments: how they actually work
To accept Visa and Mastercard you need a virtual POS from a local bank. These banks offer it to businesses:
- Raiffeisen Bank Kosovo
- TEB Bank
- ProCredit Bank
- BKT Kosovo (Banka Kombëtare Tregtare)

Which route to choose
Get virtual POS terms directly from the bank. We handle the technical integration, payment testing and store launch.
Stripe and PayPal do not accept a Kosovo-registered business as the recipient. The route Stripe itself points to is a US company (Stripe Atlas), not an EU one: the owner's place of residence must be in a country Stripe supports, so the Estonian e-Residency variant does not work. It carries real costs and tax obligations, so talk to an accountant and only take it if you sell mostly outside Kosovo.
Do not underestimate cash on delivery: in Kosovo it is still the main method for a first purchase, and we enable it from day one. Every option is in online payments in Kosovo.

Getting card payments approved
This is the step where most stores in Kosovo stall. The site is finished, the products are in, and then the bank sends the virtual POS application back because the site is missing the policies and documents it checks for. The store sits there for months unable to take a card.
So we treat the activation as a named deliverable, not as advice. It covers preparing the twelve website requirements the bank checks:
- Accurate contact details: business name, address, customer phone and email
- Clear prices and a description of every product or service
- The exchange rate displayed, if you also sell in another currency
- A privacy policy
- A security policy
- A cancellation and returns policy

From application to first transaction
Once the site meets the requirements, we submit the application together with you at your own bank, answer the technical questions that come back, run the bank's test transaction, and then take the payment live.
How long it takes is the bank's call, not ours. What we control is that the site is in an approvable state and that you always know where the process stands.
